How To Get Blurry Backgrounds In YouTube Videos
After deciding to embark on creating help videos for YouTube content creators, I decided my first video should be something I spent a very long time trying to understand, blurry backgrounds AKA bokeh. Check below for the video and text description.
Take a look at any top YouTuber and you will notice a buttery smooth blurry background and you probably sit there thinking, how do i do that too? Watch this video to find out how.
I am not going to give you all the technical and likely very boring reasons as to why this effect happens, Im going to jump straight into how you can get your videos to do it too.
I am not going to lie, to get some of the best blurry backgrounds, you are going to have to invest in a decent camera, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be achieved with cheaper cameras, and in some cases, even the camera in your mobile phone.
The first thing to do if you want a blurry background (more commonly called bokeh) is to move as far away from your background as possible. If you are recording indoors, this might be difficult if you’re limited on space, you can try moving outdoors and benefit from free natural light.
The next thing is to do is to move as close to your camera as possible, either by physically moving closer or zooming in if possible. You probably can’t zoom too much if your subject is a person, but if you are recording a product you can get some good blurry backgrounds with your camera phone.
If you have a camera that you can manually set the Aperture or F-stop, you want the number to be as small as possible, the generally smaller the number the blurrier that background is going to be.
If you are looking at purchasing a camera or lens for a camera with an interchangeable lenses, you want to look at cameras and lenses with an aperture / f number under 2.8
